Holy Mackerel. This place. I am from CA, which arguably has some of the very best food in the nation. It does not have a Luna. My family is from Lake Charles and I call it home, despite the fact that I am a Californian through and through. Much of my life has been spent in LC and I have eaten at restaurants like Tony's and Picadilly since I was a child. Luna was recommend to us by a local friend a few years ago and it is now a must-eat when we travel back home. The Neptuna Melt. The Mars. The artichoke dip. All absolutely phenomenal. The decor, music, ambiance, and staff are fantastic. It's very much a CA feel with a little NOLA thrown in. Can't wait to go back.

The number one place to eat in Lake Charles, hands down. It's worth stopping off the interstate on your way through for no reason other than to eat a good meal. Everything I have ever had here from appetizers, sides, entrees and desserts has been excellent. The Luna Tuna cooked rare is the best tuna steak I have ever had. The rich butter sauce mixed with just the right amount of spicy heat makes for a killer dish. The dragon tuna is another favorite with its spicy bbq sauce. My favorite side is the creamed spinach. Most places either over salt this dish or cover it in cheese to cover any blandness. Luna does neither real cream and the spinach is uber tender.

I ate here last night around 5:30PM. I was greeted appropriately and decided to sit at the bar since you tend to get faster service. I was the only person besides another man at the end of the bar, so the food came out pretty quickly (10-15 minutes after ordering). I looked at the menu and decided on the following: Crawfish, corn, and pepper bisque, cup ($4): I thought this was scrumptious. You have to take into account that I am no native of Louisiana, so perhaps there is better soup out there, but I thought the amount of ingredients was plentiful and balanced. You are not skimped on the amount of crawfish, even though this is no longer in season. Remoulade ($14): You may balk at the price, but it is worth EVERY penny because there's so much shrimp, lump crab, and crawfish. The house made remoulade is delicious. In true Louisiana fashion, there's a slight kick to it, which makes it all the better. Fresh romaine lettuce is definitely used based on the dark green color and is needed to balance out the spice. My only complaint is that I think to balance out even more of the spice, you really need a carb, like bread (like a poboy - this would be great as a poboy). Thus, I ordered a side of garlic mashed potatoes ($3) as well, which were also delicious. Crawfish stuffed avocado ($6 for one): This has a kick like the remoulade. The orange sauce reminds me of something one would place over spicy sushi. Again, there was plenty of crawfish. I just wish the avocado had been a bit softer. It was quite hard, perhaps not ripe enough, and therefore, the avocado taste was a bit lost. Nevertheless, it's something interesting to try. The bill's subtotal was $27 and add $2.43 for tax. If you're short on money or perhaps you don't have a big appetite, the remoulade is what I recommend the most. VisitLakeCharles.org puts this place as the #2 spot in the city, and I can see why! I will definitely be back!

This little local restaurant was awesome! The food was fantastic! The service was great! Overall experience was superb! I had the Louisiana Remoulade, an awesome salad covered in jumbo lump crab, grilled shrimp and grilled crawfish in a homemade spicy remoulade sauce. It was sooo delicious!!! My husband had the Shrimp Bienville, shrimp covered smothered in their homemade Bienville sauce and covered in cheese that's melted to molten perfection, served with homemade bread and a side of homemade onion rings, fried to golden perfection! He literally licked the bowl clean. My mom had the shrimp salad with their homemade balsamic vinaigrette. This was probably the most average thing on the menu. She wasn't quite impressed. My dad had the Austin Pluto burger with their homemade fries. A lightly breaded and fried chicken breast, covered in their homemade bbq sauce, smothered in cheese, melted to perfection, on a homemade bun with an awesomely delicious jalapeño mayo on the top bun!! This was probably one of the biggest and most delicious fried chicken burgers he has ever had or I have ever tasted! I almost grabbed it away from him!! The overall experience was great! I loved all the funky art that covered the walls and everyone was super friendly. I would definitely come back to eat here or recommend this place to everyone! Wish we had one in Corpus Christi!!

We love supporting local businesses, especially ones with cool musician memorabilia all over the walls. We found them on yelp and they were amazing. We had catfish smothered in crawfish bisque, galactic crab dip, fried sweet potato wedges, fried green beans, and shrimp bienville. Everything was delicious and the service was great. There was a little bit of a wait but they texted us when table ready and there are many places to sit outside. Would definitely go back to try some of their other yummy comfort food dishes!!!

The extensive menu here offers a great variety from seafood to steak to sandwiches and burgers. I ordered fried redfish smothered in and crawfish cream bisque. It was to die for. The only reasons this review is a three star is my iced tea had a fly in it. Poor fellow died trying to save himself on the lemon wedge. The table of girls behind us were freaked out by a huge tree roach which proved hard to kill and had to be escorted out in another patron's napkin. Had the food not been so good I would have left immediately after the second bug. Regardless the food was excellent.

Never have had a less than great experience here. Food is fabulous, staff is friendly and quick. Best spot in downtown Lake Charles if not in entire city.

Kinda pricey, but the service was great and my salmon was really good. I had the pecan glazed salmon which was fantastic! I attached a picture! But I ordered grilled veggies as my side and that was a big mistake, they were terrible! Soggy, mushy and overall bad bad bad. So I do not recommend the grilled veggies My husband had the fried green beans and those were good I have to say. The name of the salmon I got, I believe was the Orion salmon

Wonderful food and drinks. We had the crab dip and an egg dish. Both were great. I highly recommend Luna's for food, drinks and a very authentic cajun atmosphere.

Luna Bar and Grill is a very chill local restaurant and drink spot. It's not too big, but it's pretty busy. The wait time is minimal and the service is pleasant. Their burgers are named after planets, so we had the Sun Burger with added bacon and egg, and an Austin Pluto (bbq chicken). They were amazingly tasty and fill you up. I only wish they served more fries with the burgers, but you'll feel good in any case with the burger. They have a bar and small beer menu too. But it was nothing extensive. I wish they had more local beers given that there are plenty Louisiana breweries.

Great food, crawfish stuffed avocado and tuna were amazing! Wait staff was not great. Half of our food came out and we waited a long time for the rest, then i had to get up and go find silverware. Also it was Sunday brunch and we were ready to drink, but the waiter never came back to fill drinks. I would go back! Hopefully a better wait person next time!

A couple of friends had moved here in the last few months and I decided to stop by on the drive back to Austin. They suggested Luna and I was totally pleased with their choice. We started with the crawfish stuffed avocado. This thing was the epitome of tastiness. We have stuffed avocados here in Austin but it's usually stuffed with pulled chicken. The crawfish and the creaminess of the avocado with the spicy aioli/sriracha aioli was delicious. I THINK i got the Mercury sandwich as my entree. Roast beef with sauteed onions, mushrooms, peppers, swiss and garlic herb mayo. It was so dang tasty. I rarely get sandwiches but it hit the spot so hard. The decor of this place is just so nice. Lots of exposed brick and open ceilings. Super nice staff too. I look forward to coming back again.

If you're in Lake Charles, you'd BETTER eat here! Best food, atmosphere..hell, I want to move here just because of this place!

Staffs are friendly. Cocktails are decent. Overall services are okay. Avocado stuffed with cheese & crawfish appetizer was yummy Ingredients of main dishes are fresh but cooked too salty for us. But this place is definetely over rated. I have been many 3star places that provided much better foods than here.

    (3)
  • R F.

Over-rated and over-priced. First time, service was painfully slow, both to take our order, get our food, and take our money. Sandwich was not memorable except for the high price for what little I got. Second time was today....service was much better...however we both ordered the Pontchatrain special after we had been assured it was a good size plate @$15.50 per plate... Was really an appetizer...fried egg over a small, bready tasteless crab cake with a few popcorn kernel size crawfish scattered around....no hash, no bread, nothing....i ate mine in 5 minutes....also was charged for a tea refill.....won't be back

I have to say that this place is one of my faves in lake Charles. It's always consistent and delicious. The Austin sandwich is one of the best things that have entered my mouth. You really have to try this place out!

I wish there was a Luna Bar & Grill in Houston! Service and food is great! The Luna Tuna and Ribeye Luna did not disappoint. Every bite was perfect and I can't wait to come back to LC for more!

Driving through Lake Charles, we saw a billboard for Luna and decided to try it out. Lunch was packed inside, so we sat under the shade in the back patio. So glad we stopped here. The waitress, who was sweet and attentive, informed us to get the Neptune instead of the entree Tuna. So glad she did, because it was one of the best pieces of Tuna that melted in your mouth. It came on homemade bread (I had it with Jalapeno Sourdough) and was perfect. Wanted to get one to go in the car! The girls loved their sandwiches and the onion rings were big and battered perfectly. All the food is responsibly priced. Four of us ate (girls shared the large sandwich and order of Onion Rings) and each had a beer for under $50.

  • Tracy H.

Vegetarian friendly! Thank you. I had the Earth burger which was a veggie burger and it was very flavorful! Yummy sourdough bread. My mates had the Tuna melt and the Jupiter (roast beef) and they loved theirs as well. Great service, cool atmosphere, and a chance to support local business. We will stop back by when we are in town again.

Is a great place savannah is a great beautiful blond waitress the manager is wonderful to take good care of wounded warriors and military and service animals Great food if you're in town you had to go there and check them now they had the best food the best drinks they have music.

Several items on Menu excellent. Could have great cocktails however don't always have ingredients.

  • Fee J.

Simply and complexly amazing! Order the NEPTUNA MELT, medium rare, jalapeno sourdough bread, with a side of COSMO sauce. If you don't usually like Tuna you'll like this! It taste like chicken. They often forget the cosmo sauce so double check and ask for one. Try the FRIED SAMPLER, bomb-dot-com. Also SPINACH ARTICHOKE dip, chips are amazing. Brunch is phenomenal, especially the music!

It was a Sunday night but I have decided this place must only stay in business because of it's live music. The food was not impressive. Don't get crab cake for appetizers.. it's ONE. N it was $11. Our main dishes lacked flavor...creamed spinach was guess n cold...mashed potatoes Were dry. My red fish was cold n needed seasoning...I could go on but why? $77 for two meals n four beers. Don't waste ur time...unless There's a band...Maybe that would help. N Maybe try a Burger....

I must first say that my low rating is likely inconsistent with the opinions of the group that I was with. This joint does seem quite popular and was packed when our table of 10 arrived. The wait was ok albeit quite impersonal. I was glad to have a vegetarian choice in the form of a garden burger. Again a rather long wait for the food was understandable, there were a lot of us. But when my mood turned was when the food was brought out and the servers began yelling the names of the dishes out wanting us to claim our food. The irritation they felt at the slow responses was unmasked and when one yelled "Ella" or something similarly cryptic with an annoyed edge to her voice the temptation to tip the plate on her actually crossed my mind. My elderly aunt (with dementia) and her near 80 husband did not need this attitude slung at them on this day. This is why servers write orders down in progression so that they can and should know who gets what. Yelling names of dishes is very uncool and always makes a table uncomfortable. The chaos and anxiety this circus created was totally unnecessary and unfortunate. My food looked great but when I took a bite something tasted rotten. I ate on my fries and tried again a few moments later. Nope, yuck. Not wanting to make a scene I let it go. I think this is a place that probably typically has good food but has gotten some staff with a bit of attitude. Enjoyed the new place a couple of doors down, Tia Juanita's fish camp, much more because of the hospitality.

Great little find while passing through Lake Charles. The cafe is inside a bare brick downtown building and seats probably a dozen tables. They offer all the local fried seafood and cafe style foods you'd expect, but one thing that stuck out is the effort and fresh ingredients put into their plates. Great casual meal. Decor is all live music based, with posters and t-shirts of bands. I think that has some correlation to the live music venue across the street? Wasn't really paying attention to that. Full bar available as well, so a good cocktail and micro-brew beers, aren't too far off either.

This was our first dining stop after arriving in Lake Charles and we wanted a place that had good food, drinks and were we could relax. This placed delivered all three. We were seated promptly and ordered our drinks. We loved our food, the drinks and the service was excellent. I ordered the Venus sandwich with grilled sandwich and it was very tasty and well cooked. This place is a MUST when you're in the Lake Charles area if you want good food and service at a fair price.

When I come in from Austin, I stop here for the crawfish stuffed avocado. This time I got the crawfish cheese bread appetizer. Not good. Cheese tasted cheap and barely any crawfish. I do not recommend. I will stick with the avocado.

I really like the posters / decorations inside the restaurant... The owner and I have similar musical tastes.. There aren't many places to go in Lake Charles but my guess is this is probably one of the best places... The service was very good. Also, the bread they used on the sandwich I had was very fresh and tasty. A step above your typical industry grade breading / rolls... If I were in Lake Charles again, I would certainly recommend it.

Great food, but the new staff members need some work. We drove out of our way to come eat while on a road trip and were told our dog couldn't sit on the patio. Had to get our food to go and eat it on the bench outside literally right outside the place.

    (3)
  • Matt R.

UPDATE ::: Luna no longer allows dogs. We found this out the hard way last week when we stopped in with our boxer Maximus. :( Luna's is one of my favorite places to go in Lake Chuck... they have an awesome patio with great music, a good atmosphere, and most importantly, accommodations for my boxer dog Maximus. On our last visit, I had crawfish bread and a burger... both were excellent. Maximus greatly enjoyed his bowl of ice water and whatever crumbs he could scavenge from the floor. BOTTOM LINE: One of Lake Chuck's top 3.

Listening to Street Side Jazz Band. Just wailed through the BEST rendition of "When the Saints Go Marching In" Fantastic licorice stick solo; wild drummer, bass &/guitar. Started with tasty crayfish and corn bisque. Redfish Ian a must taste grilled spinach, mushrooms, cream sauce. Don't miss it! Fried green beans and creamed spinach as sides. Finished with marscapone-filled white berry cake. Too decadent. Excellent coffee. Try the Magnolia Pecan nut brown ale, too! Megan a super server. Enjoyed the entire evening :-)

The Bf and I decided to try this place out for brunch on nice Sunday afternoon. There was no wait for inside seating and we were immediately ushered to a table for two. Our server had a really nice personality and responded to all my questions and offered suggestions of her favorites, and the items she thought would showcase the Chef's talents and the essence of Louisiana cuisine. I ordered the cajun Bloody mary to start and it was wonderfully mixed with Absolute Peppar and what tasted like a house made mix. It was spicy and had a welcomed tang. For an appetizer we started with the the spinach and artichoke dip, it was a bowl of cheesy goodness with perfectly fried tortilla chips. Yummy! For our entrees, we can't remember the name of either of them, but my dish was two fried eggs, served over the Luna crabcake with chopped bacon, sliced avocado, and grilled shrimp, finished off with a cajun hollandaise. It was delicious! My Bf had a dish that had two fried eggs served over a fried pork steak, over a bed of boudain. It was topped with two slices of bacon. It was also delicious and the fried pork steak was tender, moist and seasoned to perfection! My only complaint was I specifically asked for my eggs to be fried over hard and they gave my BF my eggs and gave me his over easy eggs, so when I cut into my eggs the yolk ran onto some of my other food before we could exchange and I hate raw egg yolk! Our server also did not pick up our empty cocktail glasses when she brought us fresh drinks or our dirty plates from the appetizer we shared. So we kept having to push them closer to the end of the small table to make room. Other than that, I will return when I visit Lake Charles again! Cool spot and I enjoyed the music, which sounded live, coming from the patio. P.S. I also want to add that the presentation of the plates are a bit all over the place! the sauce squiggled all over the plate and the parsley all over just made it seem like "overkill". Less is more, the food is good so I think there is no need for all the squiggles and showers of green!

Great service. Great suggestions. Lots of local flair from the real south. Tons of seafood options. Ambiance indoor and outdoor very strong.

Great place. Fried redfish apollo was excellent. Fried crawfish stuffed avacado is the best appetizer. Pretty crowded but once you eat here you will know why.

SO incredibly slow for a large party! Our table of 10 was sat at a picnic table with a patio table attached after a 2 hour wait. Then the food took over an hour to arrive to our table. Some dishes were warm and others were ice cold. They do not allow reservations, so if you have a party of 5 or more I suggest you go elsewhere.

Sunday brunch with live music and a good food (I had the omelet with a basil cream sauce that was wonderful!). Several complaints though: it doesn't open til 11am, and we got there right at 11 to find many empty tables...but they wouldn't seat us bc the waiters were busy and it would "mess with their flow(even though we said we just wanted to sit, they didn't need to wait On us). The coffee mug was miniature and barely ever refilled. The overall service was very slow. No fresh oj. That said, omelet was quite good!

Very good. I've sat at the bar and eaten here twice. Good service, friendly staff and pretty good food. It's a little on the expensive side for what it is.

Great place! Had the luna tuna, red snap , crawfish cheese bread, crawfish avocado, Saturn sandwich, sides were creamed Spinach and garlic mashed potatoes. All items we good! Everything had great flavor! I recommend this place to anyone visiting the area!!

My redfish dish was amazing and the wine choices are varied with a lot of great options. I didn't wait long for my food even though the restaurant was busy on a Sunday night. It is definitely one of my fav places in town. Bartender is super cute too :) I suggest the Abita Redfish for an entree!

Okay...so it's time to light 'em up. This is strictly on service. I'm an honest Yelper (check out the rest of my reviews) If I could give them a zero...I would. There were tables empty inside and outside. Mind you there were a couple of large parties before us for Sunday brunch, but if you know you're going to have this sort of turn out regularly-PREPARE. The hostess and/or staff need to be more properly trained. If you don't know that 20-30 minutes wait for a table of three is going to be more like 45-50, there is a problem. Also, if you have inside and outside seating- asked the customers if they have a preference, will it be a shorter wait if you prefer to sit outside. This is basic service 101. There was a couple who came in after us who were seated outside before us. Not cool. Plus, I was raised in the south mostly and those slick remarks that were made by the front hostesses was a cover on southern hospitality. Maybe we were the wrong color. But for someone visiting back home in Lake Charles and wanting to try something new, hoping things were progressing here...it's was a reality check. We are still in the South, where some things and some people never change and are slow to it. I guess the star earned would be for the live jazz band.

Great food! If you get a sandwich, you must get it on jalapeño cheese sourdough. The spinach-artichoke dip is very tasty as well.

    (5)
  • Denis P.

Appetizers were delicious. The remoulade, crab cake and the crawfish corn and pepper bisque were exemplary. The sandwich was a letdown. We had the "Venus" (grilled shrimp, swiss, avocado, sautéed mushrooms on jalapeño cheddar bread) Very small bread, sparse on the ingredients. Still, not bad, but could be spectacular if the chef wanted it to be.

    (3)
  • Brian J.

Great sandwiches ( my favorites are any of the "Pluto" sandwiches on the jalapeño sourdough), relaxing atmosphere, and try the pearl jam drink! I just had the Mercury sandwich with the fried green beans....phenomenal! One of the best things about Lake Charles.

  • Cindi P.

We have eaten here several times and the food had never disappointed. The steaks are always cooked properly, the red fish is succulent and tender. The sauces are unbelievably delicious and do not miss a side of creamed spinach - amazing! They have some great specialty drinks, a large wine list and many craft beers on tap. It's located in the downtown area near the civic center on the lake, in a really nice old building. There is outdoor seating in between their building and the next whet there is a stage set up in the back and all manner of music on the weekends. A great place to take a special date, or to celebrate am occasion, or just for lunch - we have done all three and been completely satisfied.

Fantastic! A+++ all the way! Great little atmosphere and food was perfect! Stopped by for a late Sunday lunch passing through to Texas, and my husband I both had the Neptuna sandwich. Tuna was cooked perfect and we loved the Jalepeno sourdough bread. Looks like a nice outside patio also but it was cold the day we went so we sat inside. Can't wait to go back and check out the bands!

So while road-tripping it from Houston,TX to Charleston, SC we got famished and decided to stop at this interesting restaurant. We didn't have any prior information on it but hey it's about the journey not the destination, right? When we walked in I felt really comfortable in this place. It's kind of a mix between a hipster whole in the wall and a modern restaurant with it's exposed brick walls and duct work. Our waitress was Awesome!!! And welcomed us to the restaurant. We all ordered burgers and soft drinks and there was nothing negative to say about anything. The burgers were hearty which was great for the rest of our 10-16 hour drive. I don't remember the names of them but I remember mine had the holy grail of hither toppings...FRIED EGG!!!! If you haven't tried a burger with fried egg then you are missing out on life my friend. And the best part was...we had souvenir cups!! Talk about perfect situation for a road trip momento! If I were to ever go back to Lake Charles I would definitely stop by again. This place was a cool spot.

Another great meal. Our go to place when in Lake Charles. Luna Tuna is excellent...just seared. Bisque was delicious, as was crab cake appetizer.

  • Austin B.

Great atmosphere and the waitress was very attentive as well. You've got to try the crawfish stuffed avocados. The kids are the up. The rest of the food was pretty mediocre. Dragon tuna was cooked well but really over buttered and crab cakes with hollandaise was pretty bland.

We were driving home from New Orleans to Houston and were looking for a quick bite nearby I-10. Luna Bar & Grill was a great choice. It's about a half mile from the highway, easy to find parking with friendly servers and good food. I tried the Mercury hot roast beef sandwich with grilled veggies on the jalepeno cheddar ($8.50) and it was delicious. The meat was tender and sandwich was juicy without ruining the bread. It was flavorful and nicely sized, without being enormous. I'm sure we will stop here again when passing by.

Pricey but outstanding flavor. Creamed spinach was the bomb. We had a luna tuna, a Louisiana roumelaude, red fish apollo, creamed spinach, and fried green beans. They have a good set of beer options, and the wine list was acceptable. If we hadn't spent almost $90 it would have been a five. I would definitely go here again but will be more sensitive to the prices.

I went to Luna's Sunday Brunch for the first time last weekend and I promise I will be returning. I ordered the Eggs Cochon, which starts with a bed of boudin under a fried pork steak capped with two eggs over easy and delicious crispy bacon, covered with a wonderful Hollandaise sauce. I almost licked the plate clean. This is a wonderful experience for guests to Lake Charles who would like to experience dishes featuring Cajun delicacies and local seafood ingredients. My wife and cousin enjoyed the Mimosas and they said their meals were excellent, also!

I like coming here when I'm in lake charles, very laid back atmosphere and good food. Only 3 stars today because I'm tired and driving back to Houston and I've been sitting at my table for 10 minutes waiting to order drinks :-(

Both the food and the staff are good here. I have no real complaints other than the difficulty getting a table on a weekend evening or for Sunday brunch, but I can't hate them for being popular. They've definitely earned their popularity.

Downtown Lake Charles was like a ghost town during our winter weekend visit. We only saw passing cars until we arrived at the well-acclaimed and excellently rated Luna Bar & Grill. Before our trip, I used Yelp to find a good restaurant and Luna was the seemingly best choice. Parking appeared very sparce, with only 3 spaces in front of the building, only to later find out that there was parking in the back of the building also. After the excellent reviews, I expected Luna to be a lot bigger, but we were met with a narrow, yet completely filled space. They found us a seat in the middle of the floor between a bar and a booth that was a little tight, but after the food arrived, we quickly forgot about the space issue. The waiter was extreemely helpful in advising which dishes we should try. We started off with the Crawfish Bread appetizer, and although it was not loaded with crawfish, it had just enough to satisfy and not fill. I picked the Chicken Ella and my friend picked the Luna Tuna, both at the recommendation of the waiter. These dishes definitely did not disappoint. I loved the sauce of the Chicken Ella, but I loved the cut of Grilled Tuna that I tried on my friend's plate. It was so moist and tender, and as fulfilling as a steak. The Tuna dish cost a few more dollars than the menu claimed, but they did have a sign stating that Tuna prices could vary based on the season, so I wasn't disappointed or taken aback. We will certainly be visiting Luna again on our next trip to Lake Charles!

Yum yum. Love the tuna salad and I add the feta pecans cranberries and the raspberry vin. It's amazing. They have a fun atmosphere and art!

The food was amazing. Once we finally got our crab dip it was perfection! I had the Pluto and my man had he Unanus and overall it was really good. The fries need a little more seasoning but overall the food was A+!! However, the server took forever to get to us and when we didn't know what we wanted right away he said he'd be back in a minute... 10 minutes later we flag him down (we still hadn't gotten out appetizer yet) and he outright said he completely forgot about us! What?! I said we could tell. I don't want to hate on this place cause of one bad server but hopefully you'll get one of the girls. They seemed to know what they were doing, and maybe he was having an off night but never, ever, tell your customers that you forgot about them. I would have taken any other bs excuse but that was unacceptable. Would have been 4 or 5 stars if not for that.

Decided to try it again after a couple years. Not much difference except they have an outdoor seating area with a good band. Was a little difficult enjoying due to the cigarette smoke. Food wasn't great considering the price. Service very slow. Worst part we paid our bill with our debit card including the tip. When we checked our account they charged us more than the receipt showed. Our bank told us that we have to wait for the charge to clear before we can do anything about it. Sucks. Won't go back.

Ordered the Jupiter sandwich. It was a roast beef sandwich with cheese and sautéed veggies. The sandwich was delish but a bit messy. It was hard to squish the sandwich down to be able to shove it into mouth. The accompanying fries were very tasty. The food also came out very fast so this seems like a good place if one wants to grab a quick lunch but want to avoid fast food joints. All the waitresses are young gals in short shorts. My waitress seemed a bit grumpy but she was attentive enough.

Best restaurant in Lake Charles. Must stop for me when I am in town. The food is perfection. Everything I have tried has been delicious. The blue filet is so delicious and don't forget the blueberry lemon marscapone cake....too die for!!!

Love this place! The bartender was amazing, I asked her to make my fav drink , shown her the recipe from my iPhone and it came out so good! Exactly just like I want it! We came there at 7 pm it was almost full we just need to wait couple minutes and we got the booth , the appetizer was good the sip was excellent , it was artichoke dip , we didn't order any entrees Bcoz we already full with 2 appetizer and 4 glasses if drink lol, will be back next week for sure

Great food! I recommend the red snapper! It is absolutely delicious! Flakey and full of flavor with the creamy sauce and capers. This place truly is a hole in the wall. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. There's a bar that stretches nearly the whole length of the restaurant that makes it feel like a pub which is rather unique to the area as far as I'm aware. It's a very good as filling food!

Not worth the very long wait...ordered brunch; cold grits, under cooked bacon and the crab cakes should have been called bland dressing cakes. The steak was fatty-not a place I would recommend; unfortunately it was that or Italian on a Sunday. Too bad as it is the only place we ate at in Louisiana that was bad and Luna Bar & grill was REALLY bad! No stars. The review web will not post correctly but the waitress was friendly. That is it!!

"Philly" cheesesteak was just heated roast beef. When I told the server it was wasn't what I expected he said "So you guys need anything else" No attempt to rectify the situation.

Luna is the epitome of total package. Throughout the duration of our meal, not a single thing lacked in any way and made us plan our next night at Luna before we even left. First of all and most importantly, Luna has excellent food. The appetizers, esp the crab dip and Southwest Eggrolls were absolutely amazing. The chips for the crab dip were out of this world. The entrees, well priced and portioned, were excellent as well. Everyone shared plates because it was too good to keep to yourself. The Chicken Ella, Chicken Austin and Scampi all get finger licking thumbs up from me. The service was spot on and never left us in need. Always there when you needed them but not interrupting the meal every 30 seconds. The environment was excellent as well. Very laid back and comfortable. Though my only complaint was the size of the booths. A little small for four people and especially since we have to deal with the your a lefty I'm a righty debacle. Anyway, Luna is an absolute must stop for anyone in Lake Charles looking for something off the beaten path. I will go back and would highly recommend to anyone in the area.

The place is always packed especially when there is entertainment outside. Everyone seems to know everyone it's like an upscale Louisiana Cheers. I think the food is very good but I have to rave about the Bloody Mary, that Cajun seasoning on the rim is fantastic! Bottom line, if you want a place to eat in a downtown that is being revitalized with great food and a nice bar and an outside patio...GO HERE!

Stopped in Lake Charles to spend the night while travelling. Found Luna's due in no part of the under helpful night clerk at out hotel. As we walked around we stumbled into Luna's. Glad I did not follow the advice to order delivery food. Had the Stuffed Avocado appetizers and the Red Fish Ian. Paired high with multiple Abita Jachamoe IPAs which made for a great evening and an even better meal. Will definitely make Luna's a must stop location anytime I am traveling in the area.

Out of this world!!! Awesome place! We had the Spinach Artichoke Dip for starters. The dip was wonderful, rich and creamy. The chips were lightly fried, but still had a great taste. I've been to dozens of Mexican restaurants and never anything like these chips. I had to resist myself from finishing off the dip. The "Big Dipper" size was way too much for three. I had the Red Rock Fish (red fish fried in Abita Springs beer batter) served with a honey mustard (?) dipping sauce. Wow! The first bite was incredible. Like the chips, the fish was lightly fried. It was tender and a little flaky. It was alot of fish for an order. I didn't mean to eat all of the fish, but it was too good not to. I was on vacation. Simply put, this place was great. An usual combination of great food, a cool casual atmosphere and a friendly waitstaff. I can't wait to go back to Lake Charles to go back to this place.

I've been 3 times now, food is okay not great for the price. I had grilled fish but it was topped with a cream sauce and the shrimp were fried. Next time I know to ask for sauce on the side and grilled shrimp. My husband had a steak and he didn't like it at all. They do have a kids menu and my daughter liked the chicken off of that menu. Service was good.

Nice place. Good food. Loud. Was hoarse when I left there over having to holler to the people I was with. Very tiny, and waited over an hr for a seat. Good drinks. Husband raved over the fried stuffed avocado(?), don't know what they called it exactly. Group of 6, tried 3 appetizers, 6 different entrees, and 3 desserts. Everything was almost perfect. The "Space cake" is 2 chocolate chip (extremely dry at that) cookies with a scoop of ice cream. Definitely wasn't out of this world, but other than that, me and my husband will definitely visit again.

Family stopped at Luna's today. Restaurant had a nice Louisiana modern feel. The food was really good. Service was good. No one went with an empty drink glass. Something I consider the standard of attentive service. The only thing that kept it from being 5 stars is the fact that it did take quite a while to get our food. Great place to stop if not in a hurry.

Wow. What a find. My colleague and I came to LC on business and wanted something besides Cajun. The craft beers on tap are great---loved the Southern Pecan! We had an order of crawfish and pepper jack pistolas that were delish---donut like fried pastry without the sweetness. He had the surf and turf special. Sirloin and crab cake with pretty much NO filler. Just lump meat. He raved about it. I had the Red Fish Ian which was incredible. Sauted spinach, lump crab meat, and just the right blend of spiciness on grilled redfish. One of the best fish dishes I have had anywhere. The waitress was super nice. The exposed brick and artwork gave it just the right urban funky cool vibe. All in all, a great place that I will be sure to revisit.

On a recent visit to Lake Charles, we decided to try out Luna. Of the places we ate at in this town, this was our favorite. We got right in on a busy weekend night, got seated, and got prompt and polite service when we ordered our food. The sandwiches we had - The Pluto and The Sun Burger - were delicious in every way we could have expected. The scenic location (downtown by the lake), and the convivial atmosphere added to the experience.

Omg! This place is incredible. We were driving from Houston to Baton Rouge and "yelp-ed" this. You'd be crazy not to stop by and give it a try!! Great menu. Average meal about $14 (give or take). We will DEFINITELY be stopping by when driving along I-10 again. FYI: as of 8-3-12 there's a bit of construction around the location. It's still accessible though. Parking isn't the most convenient.

This place is worth its amazing rating. I'm telling you this place doesn't even fit in Lake Charles. Its definitely a little hipster, a little bit of that vintage is cool again theme. The food is awesome. Check out the crab cakes, the scampi. As an appetizer check out the avocado crawfish deal. Try anything it all sounds good. The beer list is awesome, local brew. The bartenders are good folks. All in all very enjoyable and I'd go again.

This restaurant is spectacular. The fries were perfectly crisp and cajun spiced, the crab dip was excellent, and my shrimp burger was over the moon. The menu, mostly American and seafood, has an array of traditional and innovative dishes bound to appease every kind of eater. Coming from NYC, I was skeptical about Lake Charles' restaurant scene but this place does wonders for the taste buds and surprises even the most jaded of tourists. GO GO GO!

Got there early and was greeted promptly upon entering. Vegetable sampler appetizer was good. Shrimp salad with cosmic dressing was tasty, had six nice sized fresh shrimp on a bed of romaine and wild greens. Focaccia Mars (turkey, provolone, olive salad, sautéed mushrooms, lettuce and tomato) was excellent, but olive oil drenched the bottom and pooled on the plate a tad, which I attribute to the preparer not taking the time to drain the excess olive oil off the spoon when adding the olive salad to the sandwich. I found the Cajun fries to be nothing out of the ordinary and are pretty standard fare in SWLA. The servers seem to be friendly and chatted a lot behind the bar among themselves, service only suffered slightly. Nice new booths, hip atmosphere overall....a smidgen overpriced, but the food is great, I'm a fan....

I have always been a big fan of Luna. You can't go wrong with one of their sandwiches. Their salads make a perfect lunch. The staff is ALWAYS friendly and willing to give recommendations based on your preferences. Dave has put together a great setup with Luna Live right across the street. Luna and Luna Live make for a great Friday night of dinner and music! You have to check it out. You'll probably see me there.

My go-to place for date night. Their food is amazing. I've had the Venus sandwich for lunch. That was great! I've had the chicken Ella, Red Fish Ian and absolutely loved both! It's a tough decision each time I go. Staff is super friendly, with a 'feel good' atmosphere. Definitely recommend.

This place stands out like a diamond in a cats ass! It's as though someone took a restaurant from Austin or Dallas and transplanted here. One of very few places I have been with adequate wait staff on hand, and they were all helping each other. Almost too helpful as they tried twice to remove my salad plate before I had eaten it all. To be fair it was mostly finished but I had plans to sop up my leftover basalmic vinaigrette with my Tuna Melt. The dressing was a bit on the tart side but in the best way possible! The only drawback is that the Sunday Brunch menu was so interesting and tempting I had a hard time deciding what to order. In the end I went with Tuna melt based on yelp and my waitress's (Dyana or Dyna with a Y- apologies) recommendation. Both were phenomenal as is the atmosphere, both ambiance and light jazz. I will definitely be back as options on Sunday are slim and the menu has me wanting to try a too to bottom tasting!

I eat here quite often as it's walking distance from my house. The sandwiches are pretty wonderful & i love the foccacia bread as a choice. They also offer flavored mayo for all the sandwiches...yum! I agree with the wait stafff being kinda flaky, although it seemd to be more of an issue with the female servers than the males. If there's a popular band playing, the restaurant can get packed & loud so if I want to be able to talk or read I don't go here on a weekend night. All the appetizers are really good, i especially like the breaded mushrooms. post note: I have moved from Lake Charles and during a recent visit, they no longer have the focaccia bread which was really disappointing.

Wow! Was driving all day from Houston to Biloxi and landed around Lake Charles at 5:30 so yelped and found Lunas. A little hard to find through the construction- but what a find! No a soul in the streets or around, then open the door and the place was packed- mostly locals. Sat at the bar and got a cup of the crawfish corn chowder- GREAT!. Then got some gator balls- were like a mix of good ole boudin- ate 4 and was stuffed- comes in a big order so be sure to share! Then I had the Neptune seared ahi tuna sandwich melt- with Jalapeno bread, I was in hog heaven. I was craving good ole Louisiana cajun food and this hit the spot, but with some class. Nice decor, great service, got my vote!!! Loved it. Can't wait to come back and take my son. He loves all the food I talk about on my trips and he would have loved this.

Came here for lunch on a recent weekend trip to Lake Charles. I'm from Texas, and upon entering my first though was that this restaurant looks very much like something you would see in Austin. There was a good crowd and I was excited to check out some of the items on this interesting menu. Unfortunately my experience here was a bad one. This was without a doubt the slowest service I have ever experienced at a restaurant. We ordered and still didn't have any food on our table an hour later. It took about 75 minutes for our food to arrive. My tea glass was usually empty during this time, and that looked to be the case at all the tables around me. When the food finally arrived I'll admit that it was pretty good, but service like this will ruin even the best of meals. If they would hire a couple of bus boys it would probably solve most of the problems. Would absolutely never go back here. I wouldn't recommend it unless you have 2+ hours to kill on a sandwich.

We love this place! It has a great atmosphere, terrific food, and friendly wait staff. I love the Earth Burger and fries with an Alien Amber Ale. On nice nights, you can enjoy sitting outside on the patio. We've never had any problems with slow service or inattentive waitstaff as some of the reviewers have mentioned, and we go pretty frequently. Check it out, you won't be sorry.

I am from New Orleans and was recently in Lake Charles for work. I had the Venus sandwich with grilled shrimp, my boyfriend has had 2 of the chicken sandwiches. Everything was perfect. The jalapeno cheddar bread is phenomenal, as are the fries. Good tap selection, I had a shiner on tap which is rare to find in New Orleans. The taps were clean (i'm pretty picky about that, too). Our service was great, we came in for an early dinner around 6 and there was plenty of outdoor seating. We were in and out in less than an hour, and it was great for the price. Surprisingly, I would say this place competes with my favorite New Orleans sandwich shops, Milk Bar and J'Anita's!

We had business in Lake Charles early the next morning, so we drove in from Houston after work, which made for a long way to end a Friday. Planned dinner at Luna after reading Yelp reviews and we were not disappointed. Wait staff was friendly, talkative and made us feel welcome to sit with a glass of wine and study the menu with no pressure to put in an order too fast. love that. also loved the live music in the alley-like venue space at Luna. We were fortunate that night to find the owner on lead guitar and stayed late after our delicious meal to sit and listen... and have more wine. As for eats: the menu was varied and offered something for munchies or full-on dinner. We opted to start with the Nebula Mushrooms. They were just as described, but not the best choice for us, i guess... could have been served more warm and as a foodie, i have to say the cheese and mushroom flavor profile just doesn't work. The menu says it's a blend of seafood and cheese, but if the seafood was there, it didn't come to party. we chalked it up to a poor choice on our part and moved on to the entree. We did a pan-sauteed fish with a creamy seafood sauce. can't find menu online, so not sure exact title of the dish, but it was prepared very nicely, if maybe a little fishy for us (we are a picky pair, though). All in all, a very tasty and pleasant dining experience. The atmosphere, great (cheap!) wine list along with fun, happy wait staff made up for the tiny shortfalls in the dishes. If we ever find ourselves "trapped" in Lake Charles again, we will definitely go back. Worth a stop.

Had to register with Yelp just so I could post this review. The Redfish Ian is one of the best things I have ever eaten. Blackened redfish topped with sautéed spinach, mushrooms and lump crab meat with a cream sauce. I didn't want to finish it because I didn't want the meal to be over.

Luna's is a great restaurant in downtown Lake Charles, LA. It's a small place but the food is fantastic and the wait staff is usually very friendly. At times the kitchen can be slow, so if you are in big rush during lunch, you may want to look elsewhere (but it is hit or miss). The grilled shrimp ("The Venus) sandwich is finger-licking good with huge grilled shrimp, avocado, jalapeno mayo, and sour dough wheat bread. Very good salads along with the steaks and seafood plates are good too. The place has a good vibe. The venue is small for large bands, but they usually have some good live music. Recently they added an outdoor stage and some seating, great move on the owners part. I recently downgraded to 4 stars....the staff seems to have their head up their a$$e$ sometimes and not very customer centric at times.

I completely expected this place to be a fairly normal "bar and grill" from the look of it....but was completely blown away by the sandwiches we ordered. I can't remember the exact name, but maybe it was the Fires over Pluto (?) fried chicken sandwhich and the Earth veggie burger? They were huge for the price and delicious. The regular fries and the sweet potato fries were wonderful, too. I will DEFINITELY stop here again whenever I am in Lake Charles.

I only went to Luna's once, but the food was pretty good. I think it's a little overpriced for what it is, especially since the service left a lot to be desired. However, like I said, the food was good. I love the atmosphere and I could've sat in there for quite some time reminiscing with my old friend--had I not been getting the eye from the waiter. It's like, c'mon, guy--you're not busy at all and we just wanna visit. Can't we sit and chat a while? It's not like I wouldn't go again, but I certainly love other places more.

Had lunch here. Tasty sammiches and cute menu. The staff was friendly & helpful AND they have 1 vegetarian sandwich! We had a neptune melt (tuna), a venus (grilled shrimp) and 2 veggie burgers. Oh, and the fries are addictive.

What a cool place! Loved the band posters adorning the walls. I will judge a place by your decor and more importantly the music you associate to the atmosphere you are presenting. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Avett Brothers, Mumford and Sons, Wilco... This laid back and yet flavorful music transcends itself in the food you are producing. Everything served to us was so fresh, cooked to perfection, and flavored masterfully. Also, great draft and bottled beers to chose from. Nice to be in a bar in the south that serves more then miller, bud, coors, etc. Lastly, some of the best service we have had in the south yet. Super attentive, helpful, and interesting. Loved coming here for lunch. If only I wasn't curious in trying a new place before leaving town, I would have been happy to return here for dinner. Everyone loved their sandwiches. Get any tuna sandwich and don't shy away from the jalepeno cheddar sourdough roll. This was the group consensus.

I am from Cali. and I've been living in Lake Charles for 3 months with my wife. We both really enjoyed Luna because it reminded us of Berkley. The place was small and packed inside the building and outside the walls had paintings and live music after I think 9. If you show up for the live music you have to pay a cover. We ate and stayed for the music and we did not like it! After 30 mins we had enough and decided to call it a day. The food was good and so was the service. The only thing we didn't like was the band for that night.

This place is great. I've tried several of the sandwiches and salads. All are very tasty. I especially liked the Crawfish Corn Bisque. Service has always been good, not as others have describe it. The only problem I have ever had here is having to wait for a table.

This place was great! I must say that I cannot understand the locals reviews... This place is only 3 stars and adorable and the food is great! I went to sha shas last night (which Was rated 4 and a half stars) and we got a rotten salad, moldy cheese (literally had white and green mold), and terrible service. Back to Luna. What a awesome atmosphere! As an out of towner in for my husbands brothers wedding it was a treat! This is exactly the kind of place I would go to all the time if I lived here. It was nice that there were things that were not fried! But maybe that's why it has gotten some bad reviews... People sure do love their fried foods around here! We had the crab crawfish corn bisque... Yummy! I've never had a pistalo before and they were also delicious! We also had the mercury with fries which was also great! I am a HUGE condiment fan... I love my dipping sauces and we tried three... Honey mustard, the cosmic ranch, and a jalapeño mayo... Love it! Wish there was one near where I live!

one of the first ever shows we did in Louisiana was at Luna and they hooked us up with grub... DAMN it was good. some of the best pre-show food in 2+ years. no BS. crew raved about their tuna. awesome fries, awesome bread. good stuff. certainly worth ducking into for a nice meal if you find yourself in or traveling through Lake Charles.

I've only been here once during lunch, but the food was pretty good. I've gotten one of the many sandwiches they offer. I forgot what it was called, but I remember it had seared tuna in it. The prices are somewhat on the expensive side for a sandwich. The service was good and the atmosphere is pretty lively and hip. I might come back when I have run out of other places to eat, but I'm in no rush to come back.

I was passing through town for one night and ate here because it was the only place that served dinner past 9pm. I wasn't impressed. Pros: 1) Serve dinner till 10pm 2) Music was pretty good Cons: 1) Crawfish corn chowder was really salty and you couldn't taste the crawfish. It could have been a chicken corn chowder. 2) Wait staff was friendly but screwed up the drink order and were somewhat inattentive. 3) We ordered two yellow fin tuna salads (one rare, one medium) and they were both cooked rare. There was too much parmesan cheese on the salad to be considered healthy, but it is generally tough to get anything healthy in the South. If you are passing through and have no other options for a late meal, this place isn't terrible, but I would try to find something else if it is earlier in the evening.

Overall I believe the restaurant has lost personality. The service was really slow, the prices a bit higher, and environment less appealing. The only thing that brings me back is the Chicken Ella. Wouldn't recommend this place but if I had to it would be for a "to go order."

This place is awesome. My boyfriend and I yelped some place to eat dinner and not at the L'auberge, which was where we stayed. We just came in for a few getaway days from Houston. We had some of the best tuna we had ever eaten, huge piece, perfectly cooked (medium raw), great toppings and great price. As a few others mentioned it did take a while but the waiter was very apologetic and kept making sure we were doing ok. If you don't mind sitting in a cool restaurant/bar, enjoying the locals, atmosphere and cool art, then you have got to give this a try. The pistola's are to die for, not greasy balls with too much cheese and not enough crawfish like Bluewater here in Houston. Sweet little puffed fried bread with an awesome filling. We loved it so much, went back the next day for lunch before heading back home. Both times, service was great, they were busy and will definately return!
